“South” arboretum

“South” arboretum is located in a picturesque place at the Black sea coast on the territory of sanitary center “Sanatorium South” in Sovet-Kvadge settlement, about 18 km to north-west from Lazarevskoye. It was formed at the beginning of the 20th century, and it serves as a lead center of the main botanical garden of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The park is situated on a small seaside mountain range. It covers 6 ha area.

The park collection numbers over 600 species, sorts and forms of plants. The park territory is the northernmost habitat point in Russia for 50 plants species: eucalyptus dalrympleana, michelia compressa, tetrapanax papyrifer, callistemon are among these species. Only here there is a unique acaulescent form of European fan palm.

There are guided tours in the park. This park serves as educational base for students of Sochi University.
